Services Offered

We're pleased to offer the following services in our Cumming Veterinary Clinic:

 Appointments

Our appointment bookitty1.pngk is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet.  Our receptionists and team will accommodate all requests to the best of our ability.  You can make an appointment easily by filling in the short Request Appointment form on this web site; it goes directly to our front desk, and you can expect a confirming telephone call within about an hour.  If you prefer, call us at 678-208-2200 and one of our staff will be happy to assist you.

Behavioral Issues

For animals with moderate to severe phobias, aggressions, or other behavioral problems, Dr. Owens offers family consultations, both within the Animal Behavior Center and at owner's homes, where she can evaluate your pet and help direct behavior modification to address issues you and your pet are facing.

Dental Care

Most of us know that the condition of your pet’s teeth and gums can lead to bad breath. More importantly, however, dental issues can adversely affect internal organs and significantly reduce your pet’s life span. You can get more information on this page from Health Topics in our Video Newsroom as well as in the Dentistry section of the Topic: We Help Your Pet With.  We offer dental cleaning and tooth extraction when needed.  Anesthesia is necessary for these procedures.

Emergencies and Urgent Care

Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you have an emergency with your pet, please try to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular situation and so that we can make some advance preparations.  If the emergency is after hours, we recommend you call at 770-594-2266 or go directly to the Animal Emergency Center of North Fulton, 900 Mansell Road, Suite 19.  Directions are: proceed south on GA-400 to Exit 8; turn right on Mansell Road and drive 1.4 miles to the Mansell Oaks Shopping Center on the right near Longhorn Steakhouse.

We are also available for urgent care when your pet’s condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment.  Our medical staff will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments.  When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

Laboratory

We have a state-of-the-art laboratory in our facility for analyzing your pet’s blood, urine, and stool samples.  Comprehensive diagnostic profiles and heartworm test results are available within a few minutes so they can provide guidance to the doctor in her discussions DSC06250_1.jpgwith you during appointments. Pre-anesthesia profiles can be obtained on the day of surgery to ensure your pet is in good condition for the procedure.  We can also perform a variety of more complex testing, such as Bile Acids for liver function, Cortisol test for screening Cushing's or Addison's diseases, Total T4 to screen for thyroid diseases, and a canine pancreas-specific lipase to test for pancreatitis. When more sophisticated tests are required, we use an outside laboratory to obtain results generally within 24 hours.

Nutrition Counseling

A proper dNatures Variety-group-all_WEB.jpgiet is important for your pet’s good health, especially weight control.   Our staRoyal Canin.VDLogo.jpgff is available to help you with your nutritional planning, including selection of prescription diets when necessary.  We recommend Royal Canin products for most special diets, and we recommend Nature's Variety for routine feeding to keep healthy pets healthy.  More information is available in the Mealtime section of our Living with Your Pet topic.

Pet Microchip Implants

We recommend having a microchip implanted into your pet to facilitate a reunion if your pet happens to get lost. The microchips are very small, about the size of a grain of rice; so they can be implanted at a modest cost.  There is more information about this technology in the Technology & Science section of our Video Newsroom

Pharmacy

We stock a wide range of veterinary drugs in our pharmacy and offer them at competitive prices.  The medications we recommend and carry in our pharmacy for heartworm preventProxy RX 8-10-2011 12-05-31 PM.jpgion and flea & tick control and prevention were carefully selected to provide you with excellent effectiveness at a reasonable price.  We also offer you access to ProxyRx, an internet pharmacy, if you wish to purchase your prescriptions for shipment directly to your home.  This also provides you with the opportunity to shop at an online store for most of your pet's over-the-counter merchandise.

Puppy and Adult Training Classes

In our Animal Behavior Center, we offer several classes for puppies through IMG_0926_1.jpgan arrangement with Camp Canine USA .  These can be important to building a rewarding lifelong relationship with your dog.  In these classes you will be taught only force-free methods based on positive reinforcement, using food and play as rewards.

Radiology

We use a state-of-the-art digital x-ray system in our evaluation and diagnosis of problems with your pet’s hard tissues.  This system exposes your pet to less radiation than was possible with older technology.  The resulting digital files are readily transferred within computer environments. Digital radiology also allows for increased detail and more accurate diagnoses to be made than with more traditional x-ray film.

Rescue Groups

We work closely with the Humane Society of Forsyth County (HSFC), operators of a no-kill shelter, as well as with many of the rescue groups active in this area and the Humane Societies of neighboring counties.  We provide various medical services primarily for adoptable animals, placDSC06304_1.jpging a special emphasis on population control of feral cats.  Dr. Amiri has served on the HSFC Board of Directors for 3 years and is the Medical Chairperson.

Surgery

Our Hospital has a modern surgical suite and uses human protocols to minimize the risk to your pet from side-effects of the anesthesia.  In addition, pain management is a major consideration in the planning for any procedure.  Dr. Amiri performs surgical procedures on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  The most common are spays, neuters, and  mass removals.

Ultrasound

A modern ultrasound system is used in our evaluation and diagnosis of issues with your pet’s soft tissue.  This is a powerful tool for examining internal organs and significantly reduces the need for exploratory surgery.

Vaccines

Vaccines are very important to your pet’s good health.  Several are recommended for puppies and kittens to provide them with immunity from life-threatening diseases.  For the typical puppy shots for immunity from rabies, distemper, and parvo viruses, we use USDA approved 3-year duration of immunity vaccines in order to reduce the stress on small animal systems.  More information on vaccines is available under the topic Bringing Your Pet Home.
